Welcome to Alberta Genealogical Society
Welcome to Alberta Genealogical Society. This nonprofit organization started in 1973 with a few members. We now have 10 branches and over 700 members throughout the province.
If you are researching relatives in Alberta, please ask our wonderful skilled research group for help by emailing research@abgenealogy.ca. They help all who are looking for ancestors in Alberta.
Or join Alberta Genealogical Society to enjoy many benefits. As a member you will have free access to databases that will help you with your research in Alberta. Members also have access to a worldwide database MyHeritage Library Edition to help with their research anywhere. Many branches have access to FamilySearch and/or the FamilySearch Affiliated Library, books and magazines, and access to Ancestry. You will also receive a copy of our award-winning Journal Relatively Speaking four times per year. Members also receive discounts from sponsoring companies. Please explore our website for further information about our branches and services and Member Benefits under the Membership menu item on this website.
Most importantly and enjoyable is getting to know the members of the branch at the monthly meetings and other trainings where you have the opportunity to learn together, share successes, help each other solve mysteries, serve together while sharing your common interest and hobby of genealogy and family history.
If you are not yet a member, we would love to have you join us to enjoy these benefits.
We have wonderful volunteers that are here to help you, whether you are a member or not. I would like to thank all of them. We have volunteers at each branch that keep AGS going. These volunteers give about 33,000 hours each year of volunteer service to their communities across Alberta. They help by sharing their skills assisting members and the public in the branches’ monthly meetings, Genealogy Fairs, other training sessions in libraries locally, answering research queries, teaching classes and webinars, leading Special Interest Groups, providing leadership on Branch and Provincial executives, gathering data for research databases, volunteering at the Provincial Archives, maintaining our website, writing and editing articles for our Journal Relatively Speaking and many other functions so necessary for our survival as an organization.
We would love to have you join us and share your skills and experience with us in one of our branches. Please contact me at president@abgenealogy.ca if you have any questions or suggestions or concerns.
